Garage Gust is my new picture book about a pig who works in a garage and helps all kinds of animals by using stuff from his big junkyard.
By the end of the day all junk is gone, that is to say... almost all junk. There's still one problem to be solved. Gust's ploblem.
It was a real challenge to make this book. The story takes place during one day, so it starts in the morning with light and bright skies, but gradually every spread becomes a little bit darker. It ends in the evening with a pitch black sky.
I worked with very thin layers of acrylic paint to give the backgrounds a transparent and open look. For the the darkest skies I used up to 30 layers.
I painted the foreground scenes directly on top of the background. I painted that damn garage 15 times.
