A house for Harry has been elected picture book of the year 2019!
I can't say how pleased I am with this recognition. Harry is a special book in so many ways. It marks a new direction for me as a storyteller and artist. Looking at the previous laureates, I feel very honored to be part of this list. Already looking forward to 2019!

The American blog, Red Tricycle, published a list of the best 100 books you have to read before you turn 12. It's an impressive list with Roald Dahl, Astrid Lindgren, JK Rowling, Shel Silverstein, Lewis Caroll, Eric Carle, Mo Willems and many, many more. To my surprise this list of classic books also features one of mine! You can find 'Who's driving?' on spot 66. Wow!

Gus's Garage keeps traveling the world with rights sold now to France, Denmark, China, Korea, United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand, Australia, and Germany. Querido has now produced this two-sided puzzle with extra big and sturdy pieces in a beautiful box. In shops now!
But that's not all! Querido also made 10 festive invitation cards for which I created a new illustration. Perfect for birthdays and other parties!
2017 is a special year. This year I will be illustrating children's books for about 25 years. Time flies! To celebrate this occasion Querido has reissued 4 books with new covers, design and format. I also updated the text of Deep Sea Doctor Derek and Crow. I couldn't be more pleased and proud!

Next year my new book A house for Harry together with four reissues of older books like Deep-Sea Doctor Derek and Crow will be published by Querido. They will also produce a beautiful Gus's Garage Puzzle and an invitation card. To announce all this, Querido printed a folder with the title The World of Leo Timmers in English and Dutch. My publisher Querido made this beautiful promotional showcard for my new book.
Almost at the same time the English translation of Garage Gust and the Dutch version of Busy builders, Busy week arrived at my doorstep. Both of these books where originally written in rhyme, in a very spare and simple language which makes it very hard to translate.
The Flemish writer Bart Moeyaert and New-Zealand poet James Brown didn't just make a translation of the text, They made an adaptation! They did an incredible job, and I couldn't be happier with the result. They are both fabulous! (The texts and the writers!)
Uit het juryrapport: Leo Timmers schreef en illustreerde dit kleurrijke prentenboek. Hij heeft weinig woorden nodig, zijn beelden vertellen het verhaal. Gust is een vrolijke garagehouder die er duidelijk plezier in heeft iedereen te helpen. Een probleem is er immers om opgelost te worden. Op iedere tekening zijn zoveel verschillende en fantasierijke zaken te zien dat je er niet snel over uitgepraat zal zijn. Leuk om met een klein groepje oudere peuters en kleuters te lezen en te bespreken.
De KIDDO-Leespluim is een bekroning van kwalitatief goede en veelzijdig bruikbare boeken voor jonge kinderen (0-6 jaar) om hen te prikkelen tot lezen en hun leesplezier en taalvaardigheid te bevorderen.
After All through my town this is my second book with writer Jean Reidy for Bloomsbury USA. It will be published in july, but here’s already an early review in Publishers Weekly:
Timmers’s acrylic paintings present big-eyed, cheerful animals busy on the job using realistic looking tools and trucks. The brown of the dirt lot and fence (which gets a makeover, too) contrast with increasing splashes of color—the animals themselves, as well as the whimsical playground fixtures. The result is a joyful cacophony of color and activity.
Querido will publish the dutch edition En dat doen we dus, translated by Bart Moeyaert. Out this summer!
